Xcel XHD Turbo 5W-30 5W-30 API SG/CF-4
Xcel Lubricants, Tampa, FL
Purchased in: I-Mart BP, Hagerstown, MD
Date of purchase: April 6, 2011
Advisory: Label may be easily misinterpreted by consumers. API SG is an obsolete specification. Engine oils labeled as such are designated for use in vehicles built prior to 1993.
Although the label on this oil displays no API symbol, the back label clearly states that the oil is “RECOMMENDED FOR ALL GASOLINE AND DIESEL ENGINES OF UNITED STATES, JAPANESE, AND EUROPEAN MANUFACTURERS." The label also says the product is recommended by 20 different vehicle manufacturers. Whereas it is likely you will find your vehicle manufacturer on the label, unless you read and understand the last four words of the paragraph: “when specifying API SG/CF-4," you could assume this engine oil is appropriate for your vehicle; it's not if your car was built after 1993. None of the referenced vehicle manufacturers recommend this oil for modern vehicles.
